Sales & Marketing Council of the Tri-Cities

Jan 10

Attending: Gretchen Beck, Marchell Mascheck, LouAnne Burton, Rick Poletski, Wayne Langford, Reneé Brooks

Financial Review

$16,749.03 balance. 2007 needs to be the turning point to make SMC profitable and prove to the HBA Board that it is a benefit.

Membership Update

114 Members to date. The SMC Board discussed designing an SMC Benefits flyer listing all the benefits of being an HBA member. Gretchen and Reneé will work on that. It will go into an SMC membership packet (to also include the SMC registration form, sponsorship information, calendar and the SMC objective/Committee list). Reneé will check with Jeff to see if we can put these in HBA folders (would need maybe 50).

MAME Update

Marchell is waiting to hear from Pat Hardee on being the MC. Decorations and menu are set and the PowerPoint is moving along (Renee’ gathering the photos, etc. and Marchell will put together). For prizes, got a Bamboo Garden dinner; $50 to Cedar’s and a massage donated. LouAnne will drop off the chocolate coins. Still need to work on sponsors.

Sponsorships

Right now, our only sponsor is StoneCrest. Ed Harrod from CBAR talked to Reneé and said that he would sponsor something, but did not say what that level would be. By the next SMC meeting, our goal is for each Board member to have $1,000 in sponsorships secured. This would allow SMC to meet our goal of $10,000 in sponsorships in 2007. Reneé will e-mail former SMC Board Members (Evelyn & Tracy) to see if they still have their contact lists to pass onto Rick and Mike. Everyone agreed that we need to reach outside SMC members for sponsors. A motion was made to include annual SMC membership dues within the sponsorship. Motion passed unanimously—SMC sponsors will now become SMC members for free. Reneé will run this by Cindy to make sure that it will not mess up any of the HBA accounting procedures.

SMC Website

Sue has continued making minor changes to the SMC website as her schedule allows. However, SMC needs to find another way to keep the website updated. It was suggested that we could have WinSome Design, who designed the original site, make the updates. At $75 an hour, that could add up. Reneé had researched some other options, such as having a web consultant train her on web design and updates, at a cost of $40 per hour. She would be working mostly on the SMC website, as the HBA website gets few updates (the calendar, which Alison knows how to do). A motion was made to approve $200 to pay for website training for Reneé, and the motion was unanimously approved. This will also have to be approved by Jeff.

SMC Calendar

The SMC Board set a potential calendar for events/classes/etc. for 2007. It is (roughly) as follows:

January – MAME

February – Education Course (possibly “Understanding Home Building”) & HBA Home & Garden Show

March – Spring General Membership Meeting (possibly a national speaker again)

April – Education Course

May – Real Tour (May 9th)

June – Summer General Membership Meeting (Industry panel)

July – MICE

August – No SMC event for Parade preparations

September – No SMC event for Parade of Homes

October – Fall General Membership Meeting/Oktoberfest

November – Real Tour (November 14th) & Education Course

December – Open House/Elections

Other

A potential Agent Tour for the Parade of Homes was brought up. This would go along with Agent Award(s) for Parade. This will have to go through HBA Board and Parade Committee, but it’s something to think about.

Last year’s MICE program was condensed down to a 3 week period. PJ Roy has a way to make MICE into counting for clock hours and the Education Committee will work on that. Last year the price of MICE was $250 for SMC Members and $300 for non-members. A motion was made to increase the price of MICE to $325 for non-SMC members, to create a benefit for non-members to join. The motion passed unanimously. A discussion of other SMC education courses also took place—Gretchen will meet with Wayne to discuss in more detail.

Last year’s Spring GMM brought in Jeff Shores, a national marketing speaker. He was a big hit. There is the potential to bring him back, if he can address a different topic. Gretchen will work with Rick to get these started.

Next Meeting:

The next SMC Board meeting was changed to Wednesday, February 7th at 9:30am at the HBA Office.
