Financial Review

$19,607.45 Balance – last year SMC lost $9,744.14 and at the current pact the reserves will be gone in 2008. Although we are doing well on sponsorships, we need to make sure that we are breaking even on all events this year.

Membership Update

113 Members as of 3/2/07.

Chairman Report (LouAnne for Gretchen) – Wednesday, March 21st is the next conference call for the NSMC. These calls are very helpful and provide some great information. LouAnne shared a calendar of the calls scheduled for 2007 – the March one is about “Getting a Jump Start on SMC Education Offerings”. All calls take place at 11:00am our time and last anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. If you are interested in joining one of the calls, contact Reneé at the HBA office – schedule was provided to all SMC members present.

Sponsorships – We are currently at $6,000 in pledged sponsorships (still waiting to receive $750 of it). Kelly will work on sponsorships from the other Title companies. Wayne has a verbal commitment from Bob Greenwall at Century 21 and will work on getting that check. All SMC Board and members should continue to work on getting sponsors. A reminder that sponsorships are now for 12-months, instead of January-December.

MAME (Marchell) – Final expense report for MAME is ready. MAME lost $2743.97 this year. Marchell talked about some potential changes to next year’s event, including starting to charge for entries and possibly eliminating the individual sales awards. We need to promote it more among builders and promote that entries can now be “rolled over” into Nationals entries. We need to be more specific in what we expect for applications and encourage electronic applications (in addition to hard copies) where applicable.

Education (Wayne) – Not a lot to report at this time. Wayne is trying to meet with Paul Roy about classes, certifications, etc. April is a scheduled education month for SMC, so Wayne (with LouAnne’s help) will also contact BIAW to see what might be available for an education course. One possibility is another course similar to the “Marketing to Older Adults” course that was offered last year. The course will be scheduled for the end of April.

Membership/Promotions Committee (Gretchen for Rick) – The flyers/invites for the Builders Forum have been sent out. The cost was raised to $15 to help cover actual event costs. We have one Builder RSVP and Craig from BrightWeb Marketing is also signed on for a Web marketing presentation. Gretchen will divide up her builder list and send it to the SMC Board members who will contact builders to see if they can attend. A builder must be a member of the SMC to participate and the builder themselves must speak – not their representative. Gretchen will pick out the menu.

Gretchen, after discussing with Rick, suggested that we change the annual SMC Membership drive. Oktoberfest was held last year and was a very expensive event and only got 2 new members signed up. A summer BBQ was suggested – outside on a Friday afternoon. Gretchen volunteered Creekstone for the venue. Everyone agreed that it was a good idea to make it more casual and less expensive. Potential dates were discussed and most agreed that keeping it in October, so that it is still Oktoberfest and we still have a GMM for that month, would be a good idea. Early October—probably October 5th. Gretchen will take this information back to Rick and discuss with him.

SMC Website Update (Reneé) – Reneé is continuing to work with Craig on a new website. The new domain name choices were: www.smctc.com or www.smctricities.com The SMC Board decided on www.smctc.com to coincide with the HBA’s website.

SMC Membership Packets (Reneé and Gretchen) – Neither HBA nor NSMC have their own “folders” so Reneé and Alison will make the SMC membership folders. The Board went over the pieces to be included and suggested changes, which Reneé will make. The goal to have the packets done is next Wednesday. SMC Board Members will each be responsible for taking packets and going out to recruit new members. (Marchell suggested that we might have more luck if we don’t talk to our own offices, but go to different ones). Reneé reminded everyone that recruiting SMC members earns you ½ spike credit!

June GMM (Gretchen) – Gretchen has secured Melinda Brody, a national speaker, for Wednesday, June 13th for the SMC. It will be a breakfast and she is supposed to be a great speaker (has spoken with Jeff Shores before). The cost is $3,500 plus expenses and will be a seminar on “5 Star Selling”. More information to come.

Next SMC Meeting – Spring General Membership Meeting – Wednesday, March 28th – 5-7pm at the Country Gentleman
